REAL LIFE NEWS: THE MOST WANTED WOMAN IN GERMANY

by Hazed

Remember a few weeks ago I told you about Ireland's most wanted man - a Polish chap who kept on getting caught for various motoring offences, all over the country. It turned out that his name, Prawo Jazdy, was actually Polish for driving licence!

Well now a much more serious case has come to light in Germany. Police investigating a whole range of crimes across the country, including murder, have been attributing them to one woman on the basis of DNA tests from the crime scenes. The unknown woman came to be considered the most wanted woman in Germany, responsible for all kinds of crimes. Police were baffled about this female serial killer who seemed to pop up everywhere and then vanish without trace.

Except that she wasn't. It is now thought that the DNA collecting kit had become contaminated in the plant where it was produced, so that all of the swabs were already imbued with DNA traces from a woman at the factory.

Well, that sounds like a huge error - except that it turns out it's not the factory that is at fault. They have issued a statement saying that the swabs in question were not actually intended for DNA collection. They were sterile, but not guaranteed to be free of DNA. So somewhere along the line, someone in the police procurement department made the wrong purchasing decision.

However it happened, it's a huge embarrassment to the police!
