WELCOME TO OUR NEW HOMEby HazedWell, here we are on the shiny new server, based in Manchester in the UK. The move wasn't without its traumas... not least because in the middle of uploading the final version of the files to the new server on Wednesday, Alan lost his internet connection! It did not come back until the evening. He was able to finish completing the uploads, and get the game running on the new server, but was not able to make any changes to the DNS records. Still, players were able to log on by using the numeric address. The DNS did get updated a few days later, although it will take a few more days for the change to propagate around the net thoroughly. We're still having problems with the fed2.ibgames.net address, which we're looking into. Meanwhile you can continue to use the numeric IP address - 92.63.136.169 - for a few more days. To answer a common question: although the game now resides in the UK, the reset will continue to be at the same time: 8.00am eastern time. If you're reading this on the new Fed2 Star mailing list, then you will know that the migration of mailing lists also worked. At the same time, I have axed the FedAnnounce mailing list, since it didn't really serve much purpose. One thing that isn't working right yet on the new server is ibgames email. At the time of writing, I am unable to receive or send email - which is why this week's Star mailing has gone out from my gmail address. Meanwhile, Diesel has redecorated her bar on Mars, and is still offering free food and drink - and will be for a few more days - so pop along to Chez Diesel and try one of her Martian dip sandwiches. |
