GRAND RELAUNCH OF GALLAGHERS' CHARMS

by Hazed

Today, the new charm went on sale at Gallaghers on Earth: a miniature replica of an ancient science experiment called a collider.

Gallaghers is a high-class establishment so there was no vulgar fanfare, no appearance by a celebrity, no ribbon-cutting by a Galactic Administration official: just a discreet notice in the window that the new range of charms has been launched. The assumption is that those who have the good taste (and the wealth) to shop at the fancy store will not need blatant advertising or loud stunts to attract them, but will rather pick up the information about new products from the grapevine - or indeed by reading news stories such as this!

Though we dislike giving free advertising to a shop which really could afford to pay for its own publicity, we were impressed enough with the new charm that we couldn't resist telling you about it. The tiny hadron collider charm commemorates a big science project from the dawn of the atomic age, when scientists were still struggling to understand the workings of the universe. In order to search for the so-called "God particle", the higgs boson, they built an enormous 27-mile-long particle accelerator called the large hadron collider.

The charm is a working model: if you give it a shake, it'll give a brief demonstration of how the experiment worked.

The collider charm costs 1 slithy tove - just 'BUY COLLIDER'. You can get a little more information from the assistant; she's not very forthcoming but she will respond to questions about the shop, the merchandise, keyrings and the collider charm.

Gallaghers have relaxed one of their policies on the sale of their charms: they no longer restrict you to only buying one of each charm. This makes it possible for you to buy several of them, perhaps to give to your loved ones as gifts.

The collider charm will remain on sale until the end of November.
