METEOR SHOWER PARTY

by Hazed

Here's a date for your diary, personal organizer, artificial intelligence agent... we're holding a Meteor Shower Party on Sunday August 10 starting at 4.00pm eastern.

August sees the Perseids, a meteor shower that occurs when the Earth moves through the path left by the tail of the comet Swift-Tuttle. The Perseid Cloud, so-called because it looks as if it originates in the direction of the constellation Perseus, is made of particles that the comet ejected as it passed by the sun. Much of this dust is about 1,000 years old. Every year, from mid-July to the end of August, the sky is filled with shooting stars as these particles enter our atmosphere and burn up. The peak viewing time this year comes on August 12.

Catspaws and her role-playing team will be hosting Fed's special Meteor Shower Party on the roof of Chez Diesel. Apart from the usual free drinks, there will be a barbecue serving a range of delicious meats, plus the chance to get a special souvenir of the event, a vial of stardust. This will launch the new feature, persistent objects that don't vanish at reset, so you will be able to keep the stardust to remind you of the fun you had at the party.

So set your automated reminders, inscribe the date on the flesh of your living calendar, or tell your droid to remind you - and come to the Meteor Shower Party on Sunday August 10.
