FED2 TABOO

Saturday May 24
by Jewells the Martian Princess (sponsored by Catspaws)

In role-playing class Catspaws gave us all an assignment for homework. We were to plan an event or a game, organize it, and execute it all on our own, with no help from the staff. Munabilo, Gorsoomba, Joe and I worked for about a week and came up with the never-before-seen game of Fed2 Taboo. The following is an account of the game, which was hosted by me - Jewells the Martian Princess.

I had 7 players join me on the Taboo channel for Fed2 Taboo this afternoon. The players were: Racingnut, Angelfowl, Jezz, Joe, Squeeky and Munabilo. Gorsoomba came in during the 2nd round. Catspaws came to observe.

Our first order of business was to pick teams. Squeeky wanted to pick himself, but It seemed as though no one wanted to step up and pick teams, so I elected two team leaders, Team A: Angelfowl and Team B: Joe.

Joe tried to pick Catspaws, but she reminded him she would just be watching, and Munabilo expressed his fear of always being picked last.

The teams eventually ended up thusly:

TEAM A: Angelfowl, Squeeky, Racingnut
TEAM B: Joe, Jezz, Munabilo (who was unfortunately picked last)

I then went over the rules (see below), and we got to round 1. Team A went first. Angelfowl's card read: SLEIGH - horse, snow, jingle, reindeer, santa. She gave Christmas, dogs, cart, and snow dogs as clues, and Racingnut guessed it right!

Her next card read: CALIFORNIA - los angeles, san Francisco, Hollywood, state, movies. She gave the clue: San Diego, and Squeeky 'squeeked' by just before the bell with the correct answer!

Team B started with Joe, his card read: ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN - yeti, Bigfoot, sasquatch, hairy, giant. And he gave the clues, big monster, banished, monsters inc. His team guessed Godzilla, Ogre, and Dragon. And Catspaws guessed Djentsch, and then remembered she wasn't playing. Jewells sounded the buzzer because Joe said "big" and that's part of a taboo word!

Then I realized that Angelfowl had said "snow", but I didn't say anything because I'm the host and I can do whatever I want.

Joes next card read: BALLISTIC - crazy, bullet, missile, explode, angry. He gave nylon, gun, special fabric, uhhh, and crime scene as clues. And his team guessed, Stockings, shoot, and bullet proof vest. Time ran out and no points were awarded.

We added a new rule to allow passing on the words, and Joe pointed out that his two words were very hard. He mentioned that he had hoped his good friend Jewells might play favorites, and was sad to learn she doesn't. We then moved on to Team A and Squeeky for the next set of cards.

Squeeky's card read: WIDE-SCREEN - movie, theatre, panoramic, letterbox, image, and he gave 'large', 'tv', and 'black lines' as clues. His team guessed Plasma and High Definition.

Team B and Jezz took their turn next, Jezz's card read: KICK - box, football, soccer, back, bucket. Jezz gave 'throwing a hit with the thing on the end of your leg' and 'toes strike' as clues and both Joe and Munabilo guessed correctly.

The next card was STORK - bird, baby, bill, birth, deliver, and Jezz gave 'wings... cradle' as a clue. Stork was quickly guessed by Munabilo. And then time ran out!

Team A was up, and it was Racingnut's turn! His card read: EQUATOR - longitude, latitude, center, middle, hot. And he gave 'zero', 'earth', and 'amazon' as clues. His team guessed 'nothing', 'infinity', 'zilch', and 'longitude' and then ran out of time.

At this point, more rules were altered, and we added 1 minute to the time limit to allow for typing.

So, Racingnut went again with another minute. His card read: ARROW - bow, archery, william tell, indian, cupid. He gave 'shaft', 'metal point', 'feathers', and 'flights' as clues. His team guessed 'elevator', 'bed', 'spring', 'airplane', 'spring bed', and 'chicken' before time ran out.

The game continued through several more words until with literally seconds left in the round, Munabilo drew the card: ASTHMA - lungs, breathe, inhaler, respiratory, wheeze, but ran out of time before he could even get out a clue.

With the end of round one, it still looked like anybody's game. Team A was in second place with 2 points, and Team B was leading with 6.

Round 2 started with Angelfowl, and the card: STUNT - act, man, dangerous, trick, flying. She just couldn't get her team to understand her direction, and they ran out of time.

Joe took his card for Team B and it read: SPEECH - therapy, talk, lecture, political, speak. At this point, Joe gave us all a chance to express our right to freedom of speech when he gave us the clue, 'this is something the president does to people.' Jezz guessed 'screw' and we all sniggered behind our hands before Munabilo guessed correctly and we went on to the next card.

After several more words to guess, we agreed that Gorsoomba, who came late, would be added to Team A, and so Team A got another shot when Gorsoomba pulled a card that read: DOUBLE-PARK - car, street, illegal, space, ticket. He gave 'non moving vehicle times two', and 'in trouble with the police' as clues, but no one guessed it. Gorsoomba passed, and his 2nd card read: TADPOLE - frog, toad, baby, pond, polliwog. He gave 'thing that swims but later hops' as a clue, and racing nut guessed correctly.

The rest of the words flew by until finally we ran out of time. Points were then added up, and we learned that TEAM A came in 2nd with 4 points, while TEAM B won the game with 13.

A great time was had by all, and please join us next time for another exciting game of FED 2 TABOO!

RULES and How to Play: Players take turns as the "giver," attempting to prompt his or her teammates (the guessers) to guess as many keywords as possible in 1 minute. Each card has one KEYWORD (capitalized) and 5 taboo words (lowercase) which may not be spoken. If the giver uses a Taboo word, Jewells will sound the buzzer, and the giver must move to the next word.

There are 3 basic rules. 1. The giver may NOT say a part of a "taboo" word; for example, using "base" in "baseball" is taboo. 2. The giver may only use non-taboo words, or statements to prompt his or her teammates; gestures, sounds (e.g. barking), or missing word phrases (e.g. The ____ barks) are not allowed. 3. The giver's hints may NOT rhyme with a taboo word, or be an abbreviation of a taboo word. While the giver is prompting the teammates, they may yell out as many guesses as possible, rational or not, with no penalties. Once the team correctly guesses the word, the giver moves on to the next word, trying to get as many words as possible in a minute (this was changed to two minutes to allow for typing time.

Scoring points: The playing team receives one point for correct guesses. Winning: The team with the most points at the end of 10 rounds wins!

if you are the giver the Host will TB you the words, one at a time. Your turn starts as soon as the Host sends you the TB. The Host will monitor the clock and the buzzer to make sure no one uses a taboo word. Also, the Host will RING THE BELL when a word is guess correctly. When the time is up, the Host will say TIME'S UP!

You can pass on a word if you are stumped. A new word will be issued.
