ROLE-PLAY CLASS

Sunday May 18
by Catspaws

In the last class, we discussed moods and descriptions, so this week we covered another role-play tool available to everyone, regardless of rank -- the ACT command.

One of the most basic use of ACT is to customize food. If you get tired of moose pizza and Old Peculiar, you can create your own special food and drink, anywhere you go. Fed is not all haul and haul and haul and haul. Fed is meant to be social. And for those of you who are planet owners,

Bella also gave us remote planet commands so we can party and still run our planets. We need to make use of these gifts. Some actions you shouldn't respond to, such as those describing thoughts and emotions, unless the emotions are so obvious they can be seen, unless one is a telepath.

As a surprise even to me, Bella showed up unannounced and gave a hands-on demonstration, turning the classroom into a dance club. It was fun -- except for the young feline belly dancers.... Ahem!

Actions, as Icey was kind enough to demonstrate, can be disruptive as well, and can actually cross the line to becoming harrassment, such as excessive use of the TDX, whether you actually have it or use actions. Rude body noises and other inappropriate actions during games and social functions can get you into a bit of trouble.

Some of the students mentioned that they had played a game of hide and seek. I love that players are starting to use their imaginations and creating some games on their own. There is nothing in the rules that states games can only be staff functions. I wish more of you attended staff games though..... There is a calendar of events on the website, as well as the CALENDAR command in the game itself. Staff take away from their own personal time to organize events, for no pay, and it's rather upsetting when the events don't happen, or have low attendance. We're a staff of volunteers who want only to enhance the Fed experience for everyone. Yes, even for Icey!

So for homework, I challenged the class to hold a game or event on their own, and to issue personal invitations to staff members. Which they did on Saturday, hosting a game of Fed Taboo. The report of this unofficial game has its very own article later in the Event Reports of the Star, so everyone can see what they missed! I want to congratulate the organizers of this game, Jewells, Munabilo, and Gorsoomba.

Role-play Class is held every two weeks, always in Chez Diesel. Join me again on June 1 for the next class.
