FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday February 19
by Fancy-Fancy, Mogul of Toontown

Five players came to Studio 1 to play tonight's Fed Phrase Game. Arriving were Myrrh, Trilleth, Bubba, Angelfowl, and Ladyjo. With several new faces for tonight's game, I went over the rules for everyone. Then we set the player order. Myrrh wound up first in the order, followed by Trilleth, Bubba, Angelfowl, and Ladyjo.

Our first puzzle was a 4 word thing (1, 5, 6, and 5 letters), and Myrrh started it off. She also ended up finishing it, finding the T, A's, S, R, E, N's, I, and L's, then solving - a small, rotund alien - for 2400 points.

The second puzzle was a 5 word thing (5, 2, 7, 7, and 9 letters), and Trilleth was up next to start this one. She landed on a Free Spin, but her attempt to pick it up with an S was met with a buzzer indicating there weren't any. Bubba took over and promptly found three T's for 1000 each. After buying the E's, Bubba landed on a Free Spin space of his own. He successfully picked that one up with the N's. He proceeded to uncover an R and the A's before calling an H missing from the puzzle. He decided to use his free spin to continue his turn, and bought the I's, then found a pair of M's and a pair of C's, and bought the O to bring his total to 5000 points. But his next spin landed on Lose a Turn, and gave the puzzle to Angelfowl. She placed an F for 750, and a pair of P's for 1000 each before deciding to solve - piece of ancient Martian equipment - for 2750 points.

Tonight's third puzzle was a 5 word phrase (7, 2, 1, 5, and 6 letters), and Ladyjo finally got a turn. She tried an S, but for the second puzzle in a row, there was no S. Myrrh spun 400, and tried T, but there were no T's either. Trilleth got the puzzle and found an N, but then no F. Bubba took over, with Angelfowl looking at this puzzle with dread. Bubba found the R's, then L, E's, D's, A's, G, B's, and Y's. That's when he decided to solve - guarded by a burly marine - for 2400 points.

We moved on to our fourth puzzle, 4 word things (5, 5, 7, and 9 letters). Angelfowl was up first to start this puzzle, and found a T, two S's, three R's, and three E's for 2500 points before landing on Lose a Turn. Ladyjo took over and found an M, the A's, and a D, before a missing N ended her turn. Myrrh got the puzzle and found 4 L's for 350 each, then a B for 600 more. She bought the U, then found two G's, and bought the I's before solving - large gaily-striped umbrellas - for 2400 points.

We had time for a fifth and final puzzle tonight, which was a 5 word phrase (9, 2, 3, 6, and 4 letters). Trilleth started the puzzle with 3 T's for 3000 points. She added an H, R, two N's, and bought the E before a missing L ended her run. Bubba found an S, but then no F. Angelfowl took over and placed an M, bought the A's, placed a G, bought the O and I, found a P, and then bought the U's. Angelfowl then picked up a Free Spin with a D, and 500 points with a V. She expressed puzzlement with the fourth word until she called the C, which filled in both remaining spaces, making it easy for her to solve - vacuuming up the Cantor dust - for 1000 points.

That brought us to the end of our game, and I added up the scores. Bubba finished in third place with 2400 points. Angelfowl grabbed second with 3750 total points. And tonight's big winner was Myrrh, with 4800 points! Congratulations to all three, and thank you to all our players, Myrrh, Trilleth, Bubba, Angelfowl, and Ladyjo. Join me again on March 4 for our next edition of the Fed Phrase Game, starting at 10.00pm eastern.
