REAL LIFE NEWS: CANADIAN VULCAN SHOCKS DOCTORS

by Hazed

A team of Canadian surgeons were shocked when they cut into a patient on the operating table, and he started to bleed a dark greenish-black blood - just like Mr Spock, the Vulcan from Star Trek!

In this case, the 42-year-old wasn't an alien, but was taking some migraine medication that affected his red blood cells, adding sulfur to the oxygen-carrying compound haemoglobin, and changing the color.

In Star Trek, Vulcan's blood is green because the oxygen-carrying agent includes copper, rather than iron which is the case in humans.

The good news is that not only was the surgery on his leg successful, but when he stopped taking the Sumatriptan, his blood returned to its normal red color.
