FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday May 29
by Fancy-Fancy

Five players joined me for tonight's edition of the Fed Phrase Game, with a slithy tove on offer for the winner. Royalsims, Stiddleficks, Garioso, Sterling, and Smitty all came to Studio 1 to try their luck with the wheel and skill in solving the puzzles, while Sephorin tuned into the channel to watch. As everyone was familiar with how to play, we went right to it and the players spun for position. Sterling ended up first in the order, followed by Garioso, Royalsims, Smitty, and Stiddleficks.

Tonight's first puzzle was a 5 word thing (6, 2, 3, 4, and 6 letters). Sterling got to start the puzzle and built up 800 points before buying an A missing from the puzzle. Garioso took over and found two S's for 1000 each and bought a vowel before picking a C not in the puzzle. Royalsims hit Lose a Turn on his first spin. Smitty found a pair of letters before losing his turn. Stiddleficks had left for a bit, so Sterling got the puzzle back. He bought the I's, then called K, N, and G before deciding to solve - length of red silk string - for 1850 points.

Tonight's second puzzle was also a 5 word thing (6, 2, 2, 8, and 8 letters). As Garioso followed Sterling in the order, Garioso got to start this puzzle. Garioso promptly found 4 N's for 700 each, then an F for 500 more. He bought the O's and A's before spinning again, and adding two S's for another 700 each, bringing is round total to 4200 points. At that point he asked if he could pass. I told him he could, and turn the puzzle over to the next player in the order, but he would only get the points if he solved the puzzle. He decided to pass his turn, and Royalsims promptly spun a Bankrupt. Maybe Garioso knew what he was doing after all! Smitty landed on a Free Spin, but couldn't pick it up when he called a C missing from the puzzle. Stiddleficks added a T and I, before calling a P that wasn't in the puzzle, ending her turn. Sterling got the puzzle, spun 350, and placed 2 M's for 700 points. With Garioso hoping he'd get the puzzle back to solve it for big points, Sterling decided to solve the puzzle himself, and did so correctly, resisting Garioso's egging him on to spin, and solving "s_a_o_ of an _no_mo_s mo_ntain" as "shadow of an enormous mountain" for 700 points. Garioso's pass almost worked, but Sterling intercepted.

Tonight's third puzzle was a 3 word thing (11, 10, and 6 letters), and we were again back to Garioso to start it. Garioso joked that he'd like to solve before even spinning, and then spun the wheel. He found an R, T, S, and 2 L's before selecting B, which wasn't in the puzzle. Royalsims finally landed on a number, 400, but there were no M's for him to take advantage. Smitty found 4 N's for 600 each, then tried buying an O, but there were none. Stiddleficks landed on a Bankrupt, turning the puzzle over to Sterling. Sterling racked up 3000 points by calling D, G, E, I, A, C, Y, and F, leaving just two vowels unturned. But when he tried to solve the puzzle, he included an extra letter at the beginning, making it incorrect, and turning the puzzle over to Garioso. Garioso then promptly solved correctly - genetically engineered fungus - to grab 1650 points of his own.

We had time for one more puzzle tonight, with a slithy tove on the line and 900 points separating the scoring leaders. Our fourth and final puzzle was a 5 word phrase (3, 8, 3, 2, and 4 letters), and Royalsims got to start it. He landed on 1000, but there were no S's in this puzzle for him to capitalize on it. Garioso commented, "Tonight is just not your night man". Smitty then spun 300 and called R. Royalsims quipped, "watch, he gets 6 of them", just before I announced that there were 4 R's in the puzzle. Royal kept his sense of humor. Smitty tried an M on his next spin, but there weren't any. With Stiddleficks out, Sterling got the puzzle next. Sterling placed the T, the E's, H's, A's, I's, P, and U. With two blanks left, Sterling decided to solve, and did - the rarified air up here - for another 300 points.

That brought us to the conclusion of tonight's game. I added up the scores and tonight's final totals were 2850 for Sterling, and 1650 for Garioso. That made Sterling the winner of tonight's slithy tove prize! Sterling was pleasantly surprised by that news, not having known that a slithy was on the line in tonight's game. Thanks to all our players for coming out to play in tonight's game.

Join me again on June 12 for our next edition of the Fed Phrase Game. And I have handed another slithy to award to the winner of that game. Also join me on June 5 at 10.00pm eastern for FEDPARDY!
