A Spanish man was shocked when he bought a new flat and then discovered that the previous owner was still sitting on the sofa - dead and mummified.

Jordi Giro bought the flat in the Rosas resort, part of the Costa Brava, sight unseen at auction. The flat was being sold because the previous owner, Maria Luisa Zamora, had failed to keep up the mortgage payments on her holiday home. The reason she'd stopped paying was that she'd died back in 2001 - and nobody had noticed. Coroners said she died of natural causes, and the body's preservation was down to the "salty sea air".

Neighbours said that "when the garden grew over they assumed she had simply stayed away." Neither her estranged husband nor her children in Madrid registered a missing persons report for the 55-year old. It's rather sad!
