HOW SECURE IS YOUR COMPUTER?

by Hazed

Did you know that a brand new computer that is connected to the internet without security enabled stands the risk of getting infected with a virus, or spyware software, or software allowing it to be controlled remotely by somebody else, within 20 minutes?

Yes, there's a whole load of bad guys out there, all of them wanting to take over your computer and use it for various nefarious purposes. This may sound like scare-mongering but it's not - it's a warning about what could happen if you don't take precautions.

Read the following blog post for some sobering stats about just how often somebody tried to break in to the average computer - and some links to really useful places that will help you keep safe. The author, Randy Cassingham, runs a number of internet newsletters that I subscribe to, and he's always talked a lot of sense; this post is no exception.
