PUGWASH FAILS TO KEEP HER CITIZENS EMPLOYED

by Dot Matrix

Having only just recovered from the devastating riots that saw citizens on Rigel 4 running amok and trashing buildings, not to mention stealing money, the owner of the planet now has more troubles on her hands. With no factories left after the rioters burned them all down, Pugwash's workthings have absolutely no jobs and unemployment is at 100%. I had my bags all packed to return to Sol, thinking there would be nothing more to report - after all, footage of cleaning droids sweeping up broken glass isn't all that interesting. But before I could head home, everything kicked off again.

All week, the no-workthings have been petitioning Pugwash to do something about their plight, complaining that without work they couldn't afford to buy bread to feed their families. The irresponsible PO's only response was "let them eat pizza!" Inevitably, the unemployed workthings got angrier and angrier until their disaffection suddenly became too great to contain, and they sparked off another round of riots.

Knowing how lax Pugwash is in her oversight of the planet, and how long it took her to respond to the last outbreak of unrest, I anticipate it will be several days before she even bothers trying to get some CEOs to return to her riot-torn planet and rebuild their factories, thus providing jobs for the population. But I also anticipate that, as with the previous rioting we've seen, the citizens of planets around the Galaxy have been taking note, and where Rigel 4 leads, they will surely follow.

Mark my words, planets that don't provide jobs for the boys, girls and things will see their disaffection increase starting next Saturday, or I'll eat my space helmet!
