FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday February 6
by Fancy-Fancy

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of the Fed Phrase Game. Captainfuzzy, Otter, and Ariadne all came to the studio to spin the wheel and see how many of the puzzles they could solve tonight for points. As everyone was already familiar with the rules, we went right to determining the order in which they would play. Otter ended up first in the order, followed by Captainfuzzy, and then Ariadne.

Tonight's first puzzle was 5 word things (9, 10, 2, 7, and 5 letters). Otter started it, but after finding a pair of letters, hit a Bankrupt, which Fuzzy promptly followed with a Lose a Turn. Ariadne took over and found several letters until she picked an M missing from the puzzle. After Otter found several letters, with a missing H ending the string, we had an interesting sequence after Captainfuzzy also picked H, and I pointed out that it had already been chosen, and invited him to pick another letter. He picked X, which wasn't in the puzzle, and then Ariadne selected Z, and Otter Q, to give the puzzle back to Captainfuzzy. After finding a letter for 1000 and buying a vowel, he then landed on Bankrupt, and Ariadne finished the puzzle, solving - classical sculptures of Auguste Rodin - for 2650 points.

Otter got to start tonight's second puzzle, a 7 word slogan (3, 5, 2, 3, 3, 3, and 2 letters). He found the R's and T's for 1000 points total, before missing with an S. Fuzzy tried a C, and Ariadne and N, both missing from the puzzle. Otter found a B, then three Y's for 1000 each, yielding this puzzle:

Y__ br___ _t, y__ __y __r _t.

He correctly solved it - You break it, you pay for it - for 4150 points.

Our third puzzle was 3 word things (8, 7, and 7 letters), and Captainfuzzy got to start. He found a T to start, before a Bankrupt ended his turn. Ariadne followed with a Lose a Turn. Otter found three R's, but no N's. Fuzzy placed a C and three L's, but couldn't find any P's. Ariadne landed on a Free Spin, and claimed it with a D, only to land on Bankrupt with her next spin. She decided to use her Free Spin to continue her turn, and placed the G, F, B, H, Y, S, and O's, then solved - brightly colored flowers - for 2800 points.

Our fourth puzzle was 3 word people (3, 9, and 9 letters), with Otter starting it. Otter tried R, but there weren't any. Fuzzy hit a Bankrupt, and after Ariadne found three S's, she tried R, already called, then selected Z. Otter then, despite spinning 1000, called X, and Fuzzy Q to return the puzzle to her. Ariadne found an L for 300 points, then hit Bankrupt. Otter couldn't find any H's, Fuzzy found two C's, a T, and bought the E's, then hit a Lose a Turn. Ariadne placed the D and P, then bought the A's, of which there were none in the puzzle. Otter got a chance and added the W, O, M's, and N, but then couldn't identify the remaining consonant in the puzzle, calling V. Fuzzy tried G, but that wasn't it, either. Ariadne added the B, then solved - two bemuscled specimens - for 750 points.

The players all agreed to one more puzzle, and Otter got to start the fifth and final puzzle tonight, 4 word things (5, 6, 6, and 6 letters). He found 2 R's, but no T. Fuzzy found 3 S's, but no C. Ariadne landed on Free Spin, but couldn't pick it up with an N missing from the puzzle. Otter found a pair of G's, but then no M's. Fuzzy got the puzzle again, and called L, Y, E, A, V, and P before solving - large glossy purple leaves - for 3750 points.

I added up the scores, and tonight's big winner was Ariadne, with 6200 points. Otter was the runner-up with 4150, and Captainfuzzy captured third with 3750 points. Join me again on February 20 at 10.00pm eastern for the next edition of the Fed Phrase Game. And join me in Studio 1 on February 13 for FEDPARDY!
