FED WORD SCRAMBLE

Thursday January 18
by Emie

With two events successfully under my belt last week, I was looking forward to completing the hat trick with my first try at Fed Word Scramble. To my delight, we had five contestants and one observer! Crown, Klytos, and Captainfuzzy joined me on the scramble channel, and as a special treat, those mischievous kitties Catspaws and Fancy came out to compete as well!

The night's theme was Fed Systems – systems you can visit with the <jump> command, so why not check them out if you haven't been there yet? The players were a bit nervous to be competing against Fancy, renowned for his speed, but the first round saw Crown score the first point, correctly rearranging geSeteirn to form Serengeti. Next, Catspaws unscrambled nBoodomol into Bloodmoon, and did quite a bit of stutting - it looked like Fancy might have been getting a little rusty. It didn't take him long to warm up, though, as he captured the next five consecutive words, unscrambling Transylvania, Addams, Modoki, Elimisto and Leporidae. Our other resident feline, Catspaws, might've taken the point for Elimisto, but unfortunately was under the impression the system was called Elmisto. "No wonder I can never get there!" she was heard exclaiming. Throwing Fancy off-balance, Crown was the fastest to unscramble the next two systems, Nobori and Racetrack. Not to be left over, Captainfuzzy rapidly unscrambled the tenth word of the night, rearranging hpiaSrpe into Sapphire. Our halftime scores were Fancy-5, Crown-3, Catspaws-1, and Captainfuzzy-1; the game was too close to call!

Despite an attempt by Catspaws to sneak three of Fancy's points away from him, we entered the second half with the same score. Fancy led off the second half by unscrambling eatrmAsua to give Amaterasu, but could not hit another streak. Klytos got on the board with the eleventh system, Terran, proudly collecting his first point ever in Word Scramble! Ever a force to reckon with, Fancy unscrambled the system of Cheese so fast that Crown could only utter, "Fancy Fast!!!" Crown was not so slow himself, as he earned the next point, the system of Washington. Catspaws expertly solved the next puzzle to get the system University, and proceeded to strut, reminding me that she now had five points, due to the three she had stolen from Fancy. I marked a 2 beside her name in my scorebook and we continued with the word I'd been looking forward to all night: Socadrult. Shortly after I gave the word, Fancy was heard saying he'd have to "turn up the intensity", and he immediately solved the scramble, giving the system name Starcloud. Crown was close on his heels with "Satarcloud", which couldn't help but remind me of Disney's Fantasia. Fancy also took the next point with Siamese, at which point he bowed out for the rest of the game. The next word was quite embarrassing for the remaining cat, as Crown unscrambled yoryCeblsrh into Chrysoberyl before the Founding Cat herself! Catspaws quickly regained pride by picking up the next point for the system of Slarbucks. The final system of the night, Draedus, was unscrambled by Crown.

Final score of the night: Fancy-9, Crown-6, Catspaws-3, Captainfuzzy-1, and Klytos-1. A round of congratulations and thanks to all my contestants, as well as our taciturn audience member Jackdhuntr. Join me next Thursday, January 25, for another edition of Wacky Words!
