WACKY WORDS

Thursday January 11
by Emie

Thursday's Wacky Words had a special treat – the event staff's own Fancy-Fancy came out to play! We were also joined by Mokona and Madchemist. I opened with the first word of the night, "Persian", and Mokona guessed the theme might be ethnicities. That was a part of my trick, though! He didn't guess the theme correctly, but took an early lead by sending his answer the fastest and roping in two votes. Fancy also received a vote.

The second word, "Ragdoll", was enough to clue Madchemist in to the theme: cat breeds! Both Mokona and Fancy offered up ideas about "Robius And Gandolf" – if I didn't know better, I'd have thought they planned it that way! Mokona got the speed point again, but this time Madchemist swept the voting with Mokona capturing the extra vote.

Fancy deftly handled the third word, "Munchkin", earning the speed point and two votes with his lightning-quick response, "Munchkin usually nibbles cheese hunks, knowing it's natural." Madchemist picked up the extra vote.

The fourth word, "Siamese", proved to be a bit more of a challenge than I had anticipated. After some deliberating, Mokona and Fancy once again targeted the same player: this time it was Icey who appeared in both phrases. This round was my favorite, not only because I almost stumped the players, but because each player received one vote! Madchemist earned the speed point on this tricky round.

I'd planned for the fifth word to be the hardest word, so my players got a double-dose as I deviously announced the next word would be "Sphynx"! Madchemist earned the speed point and two votes for his request that "Someone please hit Yodabunny not Xeon", but my favorite was Mokona's advertisement for what must be a new service at the Larg hospital: "Seeming paranoid? Have your noggin X-rayed."

I eased up on the players for the final world: "Tabby". Once again, Fancy and Mokona seemed to be in cahoots with the oddly similar "Tickle Antonia? Being bad, Yodabunny..." and "Tickle a badly behaving Yodabunny". Fancy's picked up one vote and Mokona's earned two. Fancy also earned a point for the fastest response.

As I added up the final scores, I discovered we had a tie between Mokona and Madchemist for first place, so I reached deep into my Wacky file for a ridiculously long word to use as a tie-breaker. Laughing maniacally to myself, I announced the tie-breaking word: "Abyssinian". Icey made another double-appearance for the night in Madchemist's " 'Another bad year spins sadly into nothing' Icey answered Nomad," and Mokona's "Accidently burned, Yodabunny silently sneaked into Icey's new incinerator already nuking." Incredibly, Madchemist earned the speed point and one vote, while Mokona earned two votes, thus leaving them still tied!

In the end, I pronounced the event a Genuine Tie with Mokona and Madchemist each racking up 11 points and Fancy not far behind with 7 points. We play Wacky Words every other Thursday; the more players the merrier! I hope to see an even greater turn-out for the next edition of Wacky Words on Thursday, January 25 at 10.00pm eastern.
