CRYPTOGRAMS

Saturday January 6
by Catspaws

It's a new year in Fed, and a new year for Cryptograms. It is only appropriate that we start the new year by allowing staff members to play the games again. Yes, you, the guy hiding behind that Christmas tree we didn't take down yet, you just might be the one to beat Fancy and Gwaptiva at this popular game.

We gathered this week in Sierpinsky lounge on Silk. The food in this cafe is not all that great, but there is great entertainment value in chasing around the residents of this planet. Of course, if asked, I will deny all knowledge of any games of Chase the Ziphosuran that might have been played while I was on the planet.

It pleased me to have a new Cryptograms player, Nut, join us this week. I predict that in coming weeks he will become a player to be reckoned with, at least when it comes to Cryptograms. Since it was a new year, we started the first puzzle with the first letter of the alphabet. Fancy, Gwaptiva and Zand solved the puzzle with Nut figuring out two of the names.

PLAYER NAMES STARTING WITH "A" (QW or DI CEO or DI SYSTEM)
BDHECDM
BFBOLBHC
BJRBD
BDTGWKCNW
BKXIXG
BFRDTGF

"A" is also for "Agricultural", so the second puzzle dealt with the names of agricultural planets. Fancy, Zand and Gwaptiva solved the puzzle, with Nut coming up with three of the planets.

AGRICULTURAL PLANETS (DI SYSTEMS)
JNRLFAE
EBAL
GLMXQAHZM
ALEIB
XERLX
HBQLC

As role-play team leader, I love to discuss the different role-play items in Sol. (Yes, I placed one of the items on the wrong planet, as Fancy was quick to point out. I wasn't about to say that I always go to the wrong planet first when going to find them...) Fancy, Zand, Gwaptiva and Nut all finished this puzzle. (Yay, Nut!)

ROLEPLAY OBJECTS IN SOL
JDXERZ KE SDPXQ
XKZ QDX KE GDPI
FRIQLKES KE SDPXQ
URJS KE GSPJOPN
XDZ IQKSI KE XRXDE
LOXXSPHAN ESX KE SDPXQ

One of my favorite topics involves a tquark - everyone knows what a tquark is, right? You can be sure that at least once a year, this topic will come up in Cryptograms. Nut came up with a few new ideas, such as "wash or dump it in water" and "cut it". Fancy, Gwaptiva and Zand solved the puzzle, with Nut figuring out four of them. It was a good way for him to see how my mind works, don't you think?

THINGS YOU MIGHT DO TO A TQUARK
NCGG YJ
NJLXC YJ
VCJDA YJ
IBR YJ
WBQM YJ YZ NMEDC
DBWWGC EZW GLFC YJ

The final puzzle involved that exciting rank, adventurer. Fancy, Gwaptiva and Zand solved the puzzle, with Nut again figuring out four of them.

AKATURI JOBS TO PLACES YOU REALLY HATE TO GO
TXOVF FYVUUIX
POEUYKOA LO FVJPUMP
ILNXM IXTXI LO XPMUY
RYLDLF DVAAE
JXMWVME--ULL WILFX UL UYX FVO
UKUPO POB KU'F MPBKPUKLO MLLJF

When the scores were tallied, Fancy came in first - of course. Gwaptiva beat Zand by a single point, keeping Zand in his usual third place.

We play Cryptograms each Saturday at 4.00pm eastern. Join in the fun of one of the most popular games in Fed.
