FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday December 12
by Fancy-Fancy, Engineer of Toontown

Four players joined me in Studio 1 for this week's Fed Phrase Game. I was pleasantly surprised to find Doggah waiting in Studio 1 this evening. (Welcome back!) Tristan, Genike, and Ariadne also came to the studio ready to play. I refreshed Tristan on the rules of the game and answered other questions on how to play. When that was all taken care of, it was time to determine the order in which the players would play. Doggah ended up first in the queue, followed by Tristan, then Ariadne, and finally Genike.

Tonight's first puzzle was 5 word things (7, 2, 10, 3, and 5 letters), and Doggah got to start it. He found a pair of letters to start, only to have the points and his turn erased by a Bankrupt. Tristan found a letter for 300, but then picked an H not in the puzzle. Ariadne got control of the puzzle and put together a run, adding consonants and buying vowels to rack up 3300 points until a Lose a Turn ended her run. Genike added two letters, but then couldn't find any L's in the puzzle. Doggah another shot at the puzzle, only to land on Lose a Turn. Tristan got the puzzle back and promptly picked up a Free Spin by finding the Y. Tristan added a V, then bought the I's, leaving only two unturned letters, then solved - variety of pictograms and icons - for the house minimum of 250 points.

Our second puzzle was a 5 word slogan (4, 3, 3, 5, and 5 letters). Ariadne got to start this puzzle, and landed on 1000, but couldn't take advantage with an S. Genike took over an found N, R, T, O, F, H, and E before missing with a D. Doggah took over the puzzle and found three L's for 1200, and a B for 150 more, then solved - look for the union label - for 1350 points.

Tristan was up first to start tonight's third puzzle, category of 4 word people (7, 8, 3, and 9 letters), and carried over a free spin from round 1. Tristan found two T's, D's, and N's, and 5 R's for 4400 points. He bought the 3 A's, found the 3 S's, and bought the 3 E's, and after I answered a question he had about his free spin, ended up with an occasion to use it, as he landed on Bankrupt. He decided to use his free spin to continue his turn and rebuilt his points for the round with an M for 600, two C's for 700 more, and an H for 450, leaving only vowels. Tristan bought an O, and after seeing where it was, solved the puzzle - traders, couriers, and merchants - for 1500 points.

Tonight's fourth puzzle was a 2 word place (11 and 5 letters), and Ariadne got to start it. She found the three R's before missing with an N. Genike tried an S not in the puzzle. Doggah placed a T, but no C. Tristan got the puzzle and found a D, E, 2 H's, A, 2 Y's, O, and L. Tristan sought to buy an I, but there weren't any, and Ariadne got the puzzle back. She added the M and G, leaving only a vowel, then solved - Hydrargyrum Hotel - for 1250 points.

Genike had to go toward the end of Round 4, and 500 points separated first place from third as we started our fifth and final puzzle of the night, a 4 word instruction (4, 4, 4, and 5 letters). Doggah was up first to start the puzzle. He found 2 R's for 800, an L for 300, and a C for 1000 more. He bought the 5 E's, then spun once more and called an F, of which there was one for 100 points. With the puzzle looking like this:

F_re E___ - _ee_ Cle_r

Doggah decided to give solving a shot and said "Fire Exit - Keep Clear", which was correct to solve Round 5 for 1950 points.

That concluded tonight's game. I added up the scores, and tonight's final scores were:

Doggah: 3300
Tristan: 1750
Ariadne: 1250

Congratulations to Doggah, tonight's big winner in the Fed Phrase Game, and to all our players tonight. Thank you all for playing. Join me in Studio 1 Tuesday nights at 10.00pm eastern for the Fed Phrase Game and FEDPARDY!
