FEDPARDY!

Tuesday December 5
by Fancy-Fancy, Engineer of Toontown

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of FEDPARDY! Liakell, Ariadne, and Smitty came out to play tonight. I verified that they all remembered how to play, and upon the players confirming so, we took a look at tonight's categories. They were: Mercury, Wings on Thy Feet!; Brass balls; Hauling, hauling, hauling...; and Move 16 tons... (and what do you get?) The players spun the wheel in the studio for the initial selection, and Smitty ended up getting that first selection. Smitty used his selection to take Hauling, hauling, hauling... for 1, and the game was on.

Liakell rang in to get the first point of the game, then added the 2 and 3 point answers to her score as well. Smitty got the 4 point answer, but then missed on the 5, and Liakell got it. Liakell then started the Mercury category for 1, which Smitty got. Liakell then rang in to get the 2 and 3 point answers before finding the first Daily Double. With 16 points available, she decided to risk just 1, and this was the answer:

Imagine a weapon, and this ex-space marine has it on sale. No truth to the rumor she has a relative named Davy.

Liakell responded, "Who is Crockett?", which was correct for 1 point. She then selected the 5 point answer to finish off the category, but nobody tried it, and at the break Liakell led with 17 points to none for Smitty and Ariadne.

Smitty got the first selection of Double Fedpardy and picked Brass Balls for 2. Ariadne got that one, and went to "Move 16 tons" for 2, which Liakell got. She went back to Brass Balls for 4, which Smitty picked up. After the 6 was passed, Liakell missed on the 8, but Smitty got it, and everyone passed on trying the 10 pointer. Smitty selected the 4 point answer in "Move 16 tons", and Ariadne picked up those points. She selected the 6, which nobody tried, the 8, which no one tried, and then the last answer on the board, the 10 point answer, under which she found the other Daily Double. Ariadne decided to risk just one point on it, and this was the answer:

This mine is worked by live beings, and has an administrative hut present to handle the paperwork, which calls for a courier once in a while.

She responded, "What is Harrington Mine?", but that was incorrect. Hobbs End was the place described by that clue. At the end of Double Fedpardy, Liakell led with 13 points, to 12 for Smitty, and 5 for Ariadne.

All three players advanced to Final Fedpardy, with the opportunity to wager as many of their points as they chose. I gave them the category of Commands to help them decide, and the contestants recorded their wagers. When they were all in, and confirmed they were ready, I presented them with tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

Though this command is only used once per career, the results of errors in entering the command have shown up visibly on the noticeboard numerous times.

When time was up, I started with Ariadne in third place. She wrote down, "What is IPO?", but that was not the command being sought here, even though it also is used just once per career. Ariadne bet all 5 of her points, leaving her with none.

Smitty also responded with, "what is IPO?", which was incorrect. He bet 11 points, leaving himself with 1.

That brought us to Liakell, the leader coming in. She responded with, "What is No clue whatsoever?" But the correct response here was, "What is 'deposit a bond'?", which some mistakenly enter as "post a bond", which posts "a bond" on the noticeboard. Liakell's wager was 0 points, so she finished with 13 points, and this week's Fedpardy championship.

Congratulations to Liakell on winning this week's FEDPARDY! Smitty finished second, and Ariadne third. Thanks to all our players, and I hope you'll join me December 19 and January 2 for our next exciting editions of FEDPARDY! And over the Star's winter break, don't forget the Fed Phrase Game on December 12 and 26, all starting at 10.00pm eastern in Studio 1.
