FED PHRASE GAME (Early Edition)

Wednesday 15 November
by Gwaptiva

Studio 1 on The Lattice was buzzing this past Wednesday, the audience anticipating another exciting game. And they got what they wanted. Brookerf, Mythic, Rowewar and Choid all decided to drop in and compete for the glory and the slithy. After the host explained the rules to the first-time players, the order of play was determined.

Rowewar started off looking for a 3-word Institution and he quickly managed to find that what we were looking for was one of the oldest companies in Federation Dataspace: Dustbunnies International, Inc. Choid then kicked off the second puzzle, but after revealing a solitary S of the famous person's name, he -- and yes, Choid is most definitely a he, let there be no (more) misunderstandings -- guessed a letter not on the board, and passed the game over to Brookerf. She did a little better, revealing two more consonants, and one vowel, before asking for a letter not in the phrase. Mythic didn't manage to continue for long, nor Rowewar after him, both guessing letters not in the phrase. Choid then got to the point where he thought he might solve the puzzle, but unfortunately incorrectly spelled the person's name, leaving the door open for Brookerf to spell The Emperor Promethius properly and take away the points.

A five-word place was the object of Brookerf's search, and she managed to get to 3350 points before spinning a Bankrupt, giving Mythic a chance, also leaving a good number of letters revealed for him. Despite his claims of not having a clue, he kept turning up more and more letters, and finally solving the puzzle, scoring 2300 points, which put him into the lead with only one more puzzle to go, one which Mythic would have first crack at.

And this is where Mythic put things in overdrive: big points, free spins, and admittedly clever play saw him romp home to the solution, overall victory and, by no means least, the grand prize of a slithy tove. His total of 4600 points beat Rowewar into second place with 1350 points, Brookerf was third with 1100 and, as he requested it, it will remain a secret that Choid ended in fourth with no points whatsoever.

Next week, though, things will all be different again, as we play Fed Phrase Game. If you wish to make that difference, come to Studio 1 on The Lattice on Wednesdays at 3.00pm eastern (which is 8pm UK time and 21:00 Central European Time). If nothing else, it's a lot of fun.
