FEDPARDY!

Tuesday, September 26
by Fancy-Fancy

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of Fedpardy. Genike, Tomahawk, and Liakell all came to the studio ready to play. I went over the rules of the game for our players who were new to Fedpardy, and after I took care of that, revealed the categories - K for Katrina, Floundering Founders, Fed II Companies, and Sumatra - and had the players spin the wheel for the honor of the first selection, which Genike gained. Genike used the initial selection to take K for Katrina for 1, and we were underway.

Genike rang in first for that one, but didn't phrase his response correctly, and ran out of time after I reminded him of the phrasing rule. Liakell rang in to get the point and gain control of the board. She selected Sumatra for 1, where the reverse happened - she responded incorrectly first, and Genike rang in next and got the point. Ike continued with the Sumatra category, and Liakell rang in for the 2 point answer, then found the first Daily Double of the game in Sumatra. She decided to make it worth 1 point, and here was the answer she got:

This cozy pub is more likely named after the Managing Director of the mining company than for the famous Battle of Little Bighorn. It always has at least a few people relaxing there, no matter the hour.

She correctly identified that as Custer's Last Stand for 1 point. Nobody tried the 4 point answer in Sumatra, but Genike scored the 5 point answer to finish the category. Going back to the K category, Liakell got the 2 point answer, and Tomahawk scooped up the 3 after Ike missed it. Tomahawk started the Founders category, and Liakell picked up the 1 and 2-point answers there (with Ike missing on the 2) to lead at the half with 7 points to 3 for Tomahawk and 0 for Genike.

Genike got the initial selection of Double Fedpardy as the one trailing going into it. Ike selected K for 10 to start Double Fedpardy, but everyone passed on trying it. Ike retained the selection and found the other Daily Double next in the K for Katrina category. Ike decided to make this Daily Double worth the maximum 10 points allowed, and here was the answer for his Daily Double:

A woman by this name greets visitors to the Pearl, and gives them directions to where they want to go.

Ike responded with, "Who is Madame Mitz?", but that was incorrect. The correct response was "Who is (Madame) Kiko?" That cost Ike 10 points, but he still had the selection, and picked Founders for 10. Ike rang in, but took too much time responding, and Liakell then rang in to get it. Liakell next started the Fed II Companies category. Tomahawk tried the 2 pointer, but missed. Liakell tried the 4 pointer, but missed. Finally someone scored positive points in the category with Liakell getting the 6 point answer right. Liakell went back to Founders to finish that category off, and Nolepaul (taking over for his alt Tomahawk), picked up the 8 points after Ike rang in, but again took too much time responding. That left the 6, 8, and 10 point answers in the Fed II Companies category. Ike got the 6 pointer, missed the 10, but got the 8. That brought us to the end of Double Fedpardy, and the scores were:

Liakell: 19
Nolepaul: 9
Genike: -24

Liakell and Nolepaul advanced to Final Fedpardy, with the opportunity to bet as many of their points as they wished. I gave them the category of Objects and Mobiles to help them decide how much they wanted to wager. Once the wagers were in, I had explained how Final Fedpardy would work, and the Finalists all verified they were ready, I presented tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

This character resembles a large version of an Earth rabbit, slumped over a guitar and fast asleep. You might actually be able to get a few notes of a (Frampton?) song out of him if you play your cards right.

Nolepaul responded with, "Roger Rabbitt?", but that was incorrect. Nolepaul's wager was 9 points, leaving him with nothing.

That brought us to Liakell. Her response was, "Who is Suck it Trebek =op" (a la Sean Connery on Saturday Night Live's "Celebrity Jeopardy", by any chance?), which was obviously incorrect. Liakell's wager was zero points, so she stayed at 19, which made her this week's Fedpardy champion. Congratulations, Liakell. The correct answer is Dylan, who can be found on The Lattice.

Join us again on October 10 for our next exciting edition of Fedpardy. And on October 3, join me in Studio 1 for the Fed Phrase Game.
