REAL LIFE NEWS: USE YOUR MOBILE TO FIGHT TERRORISM

by Hazed

If you don't want to use fish to warn against terrorist attacks, you can use your mobile phone. A US company that develops wreless sensors has been awarded a patent which covers the use of sensors in a phone, PDA or watch to detect noxious fumes and warn the user. That doesn't just mean chemical attack, of course - it could also be set to warn about high pollen levels, or pollution in a city center, or anything else that the owner may be intolerant of.

It should be sensitive enough to provide a warning before you actually experience the symptoms of hayfever, poison gas attack or whatever.

The patent is quite broad and covers what sounds like an obvious development, and it's likely to be some years before we see such technology actually being used in a device.

(There, I managed to get through the whole article without making a fart joke...)
