HOW TO CHANGE YOUR RACE

If you read the SpyNet Review yesterday you may have spotted something surprising:

Dannae has become a vampire

If you check out her details using the SpyNet Report service, you will find her race is now listed as a vampire, too. How come? Surely the only way to get turned into a vampire is to get bitten by one - and anyway, how could that change your actual race? Isn't the race something you are born with, which stays the same throughout your life?

Well yes, Dannae did in fact convert her race by marrying Furgas in a ceremony a few days earlier. Usually SpyNet does not change this kind of information on its database - as far as it is concerned, once you register with them at the start of the career as a space trucker, your race is immutable, just like your name. However, an enterprising clerk found a way to make alterations to this so-called fixed data and saw the opportunity to make something extra on the side. When the SpyNet management found out, they sacked the clerk - and then decided to make the service official on the grounds that they would be fools to turn down a money-making opportunity.

So in future, if you wish to change your race so that you are referred to as something other than the race you were born with, you can, but it'll cost you a slithy tove. Applications should be sent to feedback@ibgames.com who will pass them onto the SpyNet organization.

By the way, SpyNet assures us that they have tightened up their internal security procedures considerably, so there is little chance that other meddling employees will be able to change other aspects of their data records, such as names. Their security, they now say, is fool-proof.
