FEDPARDY!

Tuesday July 18
by Fancy-Fancy, the furry Financier

Four people joined me in Studio 1 on the Lattice for one last game of Fedpardy before it joined the other events on summer hiatus. Sabrina, Nolepaul, Grewl, and Gradon all came to the studio, while Xxviolatorxx watched the happenings on the Fedpardy channel, along with Grewl in the studio. I went over the rules of the game and how to play it. That done, I then revealed the categories for tonight's game. They were: I Banged my -tion, Colorful Colonies, Species in Fed, and Things a Trader would Know. Verifying that the players had no outstanding questions on how to play the game, I then let them spin the wheel for initial control of the board, which Sabrina won.

Sabrina started the game with Colorful Colonies for 1. Gradon rang in to get it, and the game was on. Sabrina scored her first point with Species in Fed for 1, picking it up after Gradon tried it and missed. Sabrina missed on the subsequent Colorful Colonies for 2, creating the only moment in the game anyone had a negative score, and Gradon got it to go back on top. Either Gradon or Sabrina rang in to give the correct question to every answer selected in the Fedpardy round, which ended with Gradon ahead 10-5. As the one trailing at the break, Sabrina got to select first in Double Fedpardy, and promptly found the first Daily Double of the game in I Banged my -tion. She decided to make it a true Daily Double, worth 5 points, and this was the answer she got:

Something you can trade by the ton, with "tion" in its name.

Sabrina correctly came up with "what is simulations?" to tie the game at 10. Gradon grabbed the 8 point answer in the category to go back into the lead, only to see Sabrina collect the 10 point answer to take the lead herself. Our players passed on trying the more difficult, high-value answers in Species in Fed and Colorful Colonies, but Sabrina did ring in and get the 6-point answer in the category, and after passing on the 8 and 10 point answers, scored the 8 in Things a Trader Would Know. Sabrina then found the other Daily Double in the last answer in Things a Trader would Know. With a 34-18 lead, Sabrina decided to risk 8 points, and this was the answer:

The maximum loss one can take on a single contract before the equivalent of an automatic stop-loss order kicks in.

She responded, "what is 2000?", but that's the amount for a margin call. The maximum loss on one contract before it is automatically liquidated is 15,000 groats. That was the only miss in Double Fedpardy, as both our players responded correctly when they rang in. Everyone decided to pass on trying to name the species Madame Mitzu on the Pearl is (she is a Tral, native to Romarth), for 10 points, and our scores going into Final Fedpardy were:

Sabrina: 26
Gradon: 18

To help Sabrina and Gradon decide how much they wanted to risk in Final Fedpardy, I gave them tonight's category of *Trumble, Cruikshank & Bone*. Gradon and Sabrina both decided on their wagers, and when they were in, and both confirmed they were ready for Final Fedpardy, I presented tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

The minimum commission that Trumble, Cruikshank & Bone charge on a trade placed through them.

Both players seemed to think about this one, and wrote down their answers in the final 15 seconds. I started with Gradon, whose question was, "What is 250 groats?" That was correct. I slid down the shade to reveal his wager of... 18 points, doubling his score to 36.

That brought us to Sabrina. We took a look at her response, which was... "what is 250 ig?" Also correct. Then her wager. Would it be enough to claim tonight's Fedpardy championship? I slid down the shade to reveal Sabrina's wager of... 11 points. That boosted her score to 37, making her this week's Fedpardy champion!

Congratulations to Sabrina, winning 1st place in our final Fedpardy before summer hiatus with 37 points, and to Gradon with a very respectable 2nd place with 36. Thanks also to those who watched, among them Xxviolatorxx, Grewl, and Nolepaul. Fedpardy now joins the other events on summer hiatus. Keep reading the Fed2 Star to read exactly when in the fall our events return to action.
