FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday May 30
by Fancy-Fancy

Three players came to Studio 1 to play in tonight's Fed Phrase Game. Bluehorseshoe, Gradon, and Priscilla all arrived ready to play. I went over the rules for them all, explaining how it's played just like Wheel of Fortune, and when they had no more questions on how to play, had them spin to determine their playing order. Bluehorseshoe got the best spin to go first, followed by Gradon, and then Priscilla. Then it was time to play.

Tonight's first puzzle was a 4 word place (3, 4, 7, and 5 letters), which Blue got to start. His initial selection of an H did not work out, though, as there were none in the puzzle. Gradon took over and found S, T, R, L, N, and G for 3450 points before a Lose a Turn ended his turn. Priscilla spun once, found two B's for 500 each, and promptly solved the puzzle - Joe Bob's General Store - to take Round 1 for 1000 points.

Round 2's puzzle was a 3 word person (5, 8, and 10 letters), which Bluehorseshoe again got to start. He started by placing the T's and R before missing with an L. Gradon hit a Lose a Turn, and after Priscilla placed an S for 600, she hit a Bankrupt. Blue spun again, but missed again with a D not in the puzzle. Gradon hit a Lose a Turn for the third time in a row, and Priscilla hit another right after Gradon. Blue found three N's for 400 each, then bought the E's and A's right before landing on a Bankrupt. Gradon got the puzzle again, almost dreading the prospect of spinning again, but landed on 500 for 3 C's, 600 for 2 H's, bought the I's for 250, and added an M for 100 more before solving - human security technician - to take Round 2 for 2550 points.

Our third puzzle was a 4 word thing (10, 4, 4, and 4 letters), which Priscilla got to start. She promptly picked up a free spin with the N's, and then 500 points with a G. She bought the I's before spinning again and missing with a T not in the puzzle. She decided to save her free spin for later, so Bluehorseshoe took over the puzzle. Blue found the R, S, L, E's, H's, M's, O's, A, W, Y, and finally D, filling in all but one vowel, and then solved - shimmering many-hued wool - to win Round 3 for 5150 points.

Round 4 was 4 word things (9, 13, 11, and 8 letters), which Gradon got to start. Gradon started by finding an S for 150, then hit a couple big numbers, and capitalized on them - 6 T's for 600 each, and 3 R's for 1000 each. He next landed on a free spin, and picked it up when he found 6 N's. His next spin he chose a P missing from the puzzle, and elected to use his free spin. That, however, landed on a Bankrupt, wiping out 6750 points as well as his turn. Priscilla got the puzzle and found a D for 100, but zero L's for 1000 each. Priscilla decided to use here free spin here, and she did much better with hers. She found 3 M's for 750 each, then bought the vowels I, E, O, and A before spinning again and adding 3 C's for 500 each, leaving only a vowel unturned. Priscilla solved it - Automated contamination containment carriers - to win Round 4 for 2850 points.

The players all agreed that they wanted the fifth and final puzzle I had for tonight, which was 3 word things (8, 4, and 10 letters). Bluehorseshoe got to start the puzzle, but immediately missed with an R not in the puzzle. Gradon tried S, but that wasn't there, either. Priscilla landed on Lose a Turn, and after Blue collected 100 for a T, Blue hit another Lose a Turn. Gradon took over again and added the N's, D's, G's, E's, L's, and C, giving him 3400 points, at which point he decided to solve, and did so successfully - bleeding-edge technology - to win Round 5.

That brought us to the end of our game. I added up the scores and tonight's big winner was Gradon with 5950 points! Bluehorseshoe grabbed second with 5150, and Priscilla took home third with 3850 points. Congratulations to all three. We'll play the Fed Phrase Game again on June 13, starting at 10.00pm eastern in Studio 1 on the Lattice. And on the 6th, join us there for FEDPARDY!, where I'll give the answers, and you supply the questions to them.
