FEDPARDY!

Tuesday May 9
by Fancy-Fancy

Four players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's game of Fedpardy. Priscilla, Kalandra, Jinto, and Djentsch all came to the studio ready to play. I went over the rules of the game for our new players to the game, and once I had explained how to play, and verified there were no remaining questions, revealed the night's categories. They were: Transportation in Fed, Earth below Us, "Con" games, and Sol Objects. The players then spun the wheel for the chance at initial control of the board, and that went to Priscilla, who used the selection to pick Sol Objects for 1 to start the game.

Djentsch picked up the first positive point of the game on that one, after Kalandra missed on it. Djentsch then proceed to expand that lead quite a bit early on, nearly running the entire Transportation in Fed category until missing the 5-point answer to lose some points back. But he resumed his streak with Earth below us, scoring the 2-pointer there, and then finding the first Daily Double under the category's 3-point slot. With 8 points available, Djentsch decided to risk 2 on it, and this was the answer:

This specialist shop contains the Galaxy's largest collection of rare, old musical recordings on their original media. Racks of disks, tapes and holos fill the interior, and collectors browse through, giving the occasional exclamation when they find something thought lost.

After a bit of thinking, Djentsch said, "What is Hagar's?" which was good enough for Hagar's Music Store to collect 2 points. Priscilla closed out the first half by ringing in and correctly questioning the 4-point answer in Earth below Us. At the break, Djentsch led with 10 to Priscilla's 4, and Kalandra's -3. I also announced at the break that I had been given a slithy tove to award the winner of tonight's game.

Kalandra got the first selection of Double Fedpardy, and selected "Con" games for 10. She really caught fire with that category, ringing in and giving the correct questions to the 10, 8, and 4 point answers in the category, while Priscilla collected the 6 and 2 point answers, pulling both of them ahead of Djentsch. Priscilla selected Sol Objects for 10, and subsequent selections were for the biggest remaining point values in the category. No one tried the 10 point answer, but Priscilla found the other Daily Double under the 8-point slot. With the score Kalandra 19, Priscilla 12, Djentsch 10, Priscilla decided to risk 5 points, and this was the answer:

Produced exclusively for the CosaNostra Pizza Syndicate, this combines incredible protection with great comfort. It defies most energy and projectile weapons with ease. It dates to the early Interregnum.

Priscilla tried, "What is a pizza box?", but that was incorrect. The above is the description of the (arachnofiber) uniform at Arnie's museum on Paradise. That cost Priscilla 5, and she then selected the 6 point answer, which Kalandra got, and then the 4 pointer on top of it. No one tried the final answer on the board, Earth below us for 10. The scores at the end of Double Fedpardy were then:

Kalandra: 29
Djentsch: 10
Priscilla: 7

They all advanced to Final Fedpardy, with the opportunity to bet as many of their points as they each desired, and to help them decide how many they wanted to risk, they got the category of Colorful Colonies. The finalists quickly placed their bets, and when they were all in, I had given final instructions on Final Fedpardy, and the finalists verified they were all ready, I revealed tonight's Final Fedpardy answer, and started the 60 second timer:

On Brass, one of the colors of the wool on the Minter strain llamas present.

Priscilla came up with, "what is blue?" for her response, and that was indeed one of the colors mentioned, making her correct. Priscilla risked everything, and doubled her score to 14 points.

Djentsch responded with, "what is green?", but that was not one of the colors. Djentsch risked 9 points, leaving him with 1.

That brought us to Kalandra. Her response did not come in in time, and "what is purple?" wasn't correct anyway. Her wager was 8 points, leaving her with 21, which was still enough to make her this week's Fedpardy champion. Congratulations, Kalandra! That also meant she was the winner of tonight's slithy tove prize, which I awarded. Priscilla claimed second place with 14 points, and Djentsch third with 1.

Join me again on May 23, at 10.00pm eastern in Studio 1 on the Lattice for our next exciting edition of FEDPARDY! And on May 16, join me there for the Fed Phrase Game.
