THE CUTTER CONSPIRACY

by Jessecka

It comes as no surprise that in the last few weeks the GA has started cracking down on smuggling operations. The comms are littered with messages from honest, hard working smugglers griping about customs checks. Just this last week someone was overheard complaining about getting a lawyer to sue the GA for harassment. I did some asking around, and discovered that several smugglers had been targeted repeatedly, and began to wonder just what the GA does with the confiscated goods.

I talked to two smugglers, whose names will remain unsaid, and got an idea of what kind of cargo was being taken by the GA customs agents. The first smuggler lost a whole load of black market catnip from Catseye. He also remarked that since he had changed his hiding place in his ship, he was losing less and less goods to the agents, although he is still pulled over often. The second smuggler was caught hauling illegally appropriated blood wine from Dilconia. She claimed it was for personal consumption, but Furgas, Overlord of Dilconia was quoted as saying that it was impossible to consume the some 200 barrels of wine that go missing from his planet on a weekly basis.

So what happens to the goods that the GA confiscates from smugglers? Try as I might, I could not find the answer. It seems as though these goods just disappear. Could it be that the GA itself sells these goods on the black market? Is this possibly why the Customs Cutters are on the prowl day and night? Or could it very well be another reason the agents are out in force? One thing is for certain though, the stolen goods are not returned to the rightful owners.
