FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday February 21
by Fancy-Fancy

Six players came to Studio 1, and three more tuned into the channel for tonight's Fed Phrase Game, in which I offered up a slithy tove to the winner. Prometheus, Kella, Moonus, Ibunyc, Santana, and Nancy came to the studio, while Kalandra, Artscrafter, and Robius joined the channel to watch the camera's relay. I went over how to play the game for all our new players and made sure any questions about the game were answered. Unfortunately for Nancy something came up that called her away, so she bowed out. So Santana, Kella, and Prometheus spun the wheel for position in the order, and Kella got the best spin to get the first slot, followed by Santana, then Prometheus. It was time to play.

Tonight's first puzzle was a 6 word phrase (4, 6, 5, 4, 4, and 5 letters), and Kella got to start it. Kella placed a T and two S's before a Bankrupt zapped her points and turn. Santana took over and added two R's, 3 N's, and the E's before picking L, which wasn't in the puzzle. Prometheus got the puzzle, but couldn't find any M's in it. Kella got the puzzle back and landed on a free spin, but couldn't get it with a K. Santana got the puzzle again, and this time finished it by adding most of the remaining letters and solving - Huge hangar doors open into space - to win Round 1 for 4000 points.

Our second puzzle was a 5 word thing (3, 7, 2, 4, and 8 letters). Prometheus got to start this puzzle, and racked up 4350 points with T, E, H, S, I, R, and G before hitting a Lose a Turn. Kella landed on 450, but there were no L's for her. Santana took over and added 3 F's for 600 each, bought the A's, and 2 M's for 750 each, then solved - the remains of some graffiti - for 3050 more points.

Our third puzzle was a 6 word thing (1, 5, 2, 10, 6, and 8 letters). Prometheus again got to start this puzzle. He placed the T, S's, and R's before a Lose a Turn ended his turn. Kella took over, and added N, H, L, A, F, O, G, I, M, V, E, C, and B to fill in all but one letter, then solved - a block of shimmering silver material - to take Round 3 for 4350 points.

Tonight's fourth puzzle was 6 word things (8, 6, 8, 3, 4, and 6 letters), which Santana got to start. He started off nicely, picking up 1800 points with 3 R's, and 1500 more with 3 S's. He then picked up a free spin with the T's, then started buying all the vowels - E, then A, then I, which wasn't in the puzzle. Santana decided to use his free spin to continue his turn, and bought the O's, and the U's, then started spinning the wheel again. He filled in the M, P's, and L's, at which point he solved - artfully placed boulders and tree stumps - to win Round 4 for 4850 points.

Tonight's fifth and final puzzle was 4 word people (7, 9, 8, and 6 letters), and Prometheus got to start it. He placed a T, S, and 4 R's for 2300 points, before hitting yet another Lose a Turn. Kella followed that with a Bankrupt. Santana took over and added 2 N's and an L for 1700 points before picking a P missing from the puzzle. Prometheus got the puzzle back and added a C for 600, then landed on 1000, but couldn't take advantage with an M. Kella got the puzzle back and promptly placed 3 F's for 500 each and bought the O's before selecting an H missing from the puzzle. Santana started his turn by buying the E's, but then missed with a B, giving the puzzle back to Prometheus for a third chance at the puzzle. Prometheus proceeded to add the G, D, I's, K's, W, Y, and V, leaving only a vowel unrevealed, and solved - workers furtively drinking coffee - for 6650 points.

That brought us to the conclusion of tonight's game. I added up the final scores, and they were:

Santana: 11900
Prometheus: 6650
Kella: 4350

Congratulations to Santana, tonight's big winner, and winner of a slithy tove! Thanks also to Prometheus and Kella for playing, and solving a puzzle each, and to our audience who watched the event, both in the studio and from afar. I hope you'll join me again on March 7 for our next edition of the Phrase Game, and on February 28 for FEDPARDY!, both beginning at 10.00pm eastern.
