FEDPARDY

Wednesday February 15
by Fancy-Fancy

Three players joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's game of Fedpardy, delayed one day to avoid conflicting with our special Valentine's Day events. Gandolf, Catspaws, and Honoria came to the studio to play. I explained how to play the game for Honoria, our new player tonight, and once that was done, I revealed the night's categories. They were: Love is in the Air, Be My Valentine, Yer Out!, and Potluck. The players spun the wheel for the chance to select first, and Honoria got that honor. To start the game, she selected Love is in the Air for 1, and we were off.

Honoria rang in to try the answer she selected, but missed it to go a point in the hole. She selected the 2 point answer, but everyone passed on trying it. She switched gears and went to Potluck for 1, which Catspaws got, and then selected Yer Out! for 1. Nobody tried it, and Catspaws went back to Potluck for 2, which she rang in and got. Gandolf missed on the 3 pointer, but got the 4 pointer, and selected Yer Out! for 2. Everyone passed on that, and Gandolf decided to finish off Potluck for 5, which he rang in on and missed. With the final selection of the Fedpardy round, Gandolf uncovered the first Daily Double in Yer Out! He elected to make it worth the maximum 5 for the score he had, and here was his answer:

Go out from this Magellan company's reception area, with three identical receptionists, and you'll go out into their lobby.

Gandolf was unable to come up with a response, though, which cost him (it was Universal Exports). That made our scores at the break: Catspaws 3, Honoria -1, Gandolf -9. Gandolf got to select first in Double Fedpardy as the one trailing.

Gandolf broke out the Valentine category for 4 to start Double Fedpardy, but everyone passed on ringing in on the description of the wedding cake, thinking it too obvious to be true, apparently. Gandolf promptly found the other Daily Double in the category under the 6 point answer, and decided to make it worth 10 for a chance to get out of the hole. Here was the answer:

The setting for a ceremony in the alpine area [of the planet Valentine] is this.

Unfortunately Gandolf didn't have a response for this one, either (a meadow), costing him 10 points. Gandolf still had the selection and picked Yer Out! for 6, and rang in and got it. He selected the same category for 8 points, but rang in and missed that one, putting him deeper in the hole. Gandolf switched gears, selecting Love is in the Air for 8, which everyone passed, and then for 10 which he missed, and Catspaws got for 10. Catspaws selected Valentine for 2, which Gandolf rang in and got, then selected the same category for 10, but both he and Catspaws missed on it to lose 10 points. Gandolf finished off Love for 6 and got it, then everyone passed on trying Valentine for 8 to cap Double Fedpardy tonight. Our scores then were:

Catspaws: 3
Honoria: -1
Gandolf: -33

Catspaws was our lone Final Fedpardy contestant tonight, and decided her wager based on a category of Music in Fed. With her wager registered, my explanation of how Final Fedpardy works and the admonition to remember to phrase her response in the form of a question done, Catspaws verified she was ready, and so I presented her with tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

Two of the song titles played on the Old Earth Taproom jukebox.

As the 60 seconds allotted finished up, Cats indicated she wished she could erase her response, but it was in. And her response was, "what is 'Fly Me to the Moon' and 'Rocket Man'?" Those are indeed two of the songs played, making her response correct. She fainted with surprise upon learning she got it right. Her wager was 2 points, making her this week's Fedpardy champion with 5 points.

Congratulations to Catspaws, this week's Fedpardy winner! Thanks also to Honoria and Gandolf for playing tonight. The next game of Fedpardy is on February 28. Join me in Studio 1 at 10.00pm eastern that night for Fed's longest-running trivia game show. And on the 21st, join me there for the Fed Phrase Game.
