REAL LIFE NEWS: THIS TEXT WILL SELF-DESTRUCT IN 40 SECONDS

If you want to send a text message that could be embarrassing or incriminating, or just a bit sensitive, you need to remember that mobile phones not only store the messages you send, but the receiver's phone will store it too. In the UK several famous footballers (including David Beckham) have been caught out and accused of having affairs after details of raunchy text messages they've sent have later been reprinted in newspapers.

In which case, a company in the UK called Staellium is offering just the thing you need: StealthText. It's apparently derived from military technology, and it ensures that once opened a text disappears again after 40 seconds. The drawback is that you have to have a WAP phone which can access the Internet, and it also costs 50p a text, which is presumably on top of the actual cost from the phone provider of sending the message.

A spokesperson from the developers said, "The ability to send a self-destruct message has massive benefits for people from all walks of life, from everyday mobile users through to celebrities and business people." Not to mention criminals and anyone involved in dodgy dealings.

And to add to this service, Staellium intend to introduce a new service next year which will let you send photos which self-destruct. The mind boggles!
