FEDPARDY!

Tuesday, January 31
by Fancy-Fancy

We had a lot of players come to Studio 1 for tonight's game of Fedpardy. Robius, Jesecka, Kalandra, and Squeeky were all waiting for me in the studio, and Prometheus, Alphatron, Honoria, and Jaymatron, among others, joined me there after that. I went over the rules for our new players, and once all questions about how to play were answered, the players spun the wheel for intial control of the board, which Prometheus got, and I revealed tonight's categories, which were: X marks the Spot, GroundHog Days, The Magellan Society, and Planets of the Solar System. Prometheus used the first selection to pick GroundHog Days for 1, and the game was underway.

Everyone promptly missed that first question to go -1 in the hole. Robius got the point back with Planets of the Solar System for 1, and then Prometheus with The Magellan Society for 1. Pretty much everyone tried ringing in on Planets for 2, and missed that as well. Finally Robius provided another correct response after Prometheus and Jessecka both rang in and missed the 3 in the category. Robius selected X marks the Spot for 1, and Kalandra, Prometheus, and Jaymatron missed it before Jessecka got it. She also got the 2 and 3 point answers, with Kalandra missing the 3, to get back to breakeven. Then Kalandra, Jaymatron, Squeeky, and Robius each missed the 4 point answer, and nobody got it. Jessecka then found the first Daily Double with the last selection of the Fedpardy round in the X category. She decided to make it worth 5 points, and her Daily Double answer was:

The commodity groups without at least one commodity name containing the letter X.

Jessecka's response was, "what are agri leisure", but there is Textiles in the agricultural group, so that was wrong. Jessecka lost 5 points on that, bringing us to the break. Seeing what the scores were, I commented, "One moment while I subtract up the scores..." Everyone had a negative score at the break. Robius was the leader with -1, followed by Alphatron (-3), Jessecka (-5), Prometheus (-6), Squeeky and Jaymatron (-7 each), and Kalandra (-11). As the one trailing, Kalandra got to select first in Double Fedpardy.

Kalandra selected GroundHog Days for 4 to start off Double Fedpardy, and the players did considerably better in Double Fedpardy. Kalandra rang in first on her selection and got it for 4 points, then selected the 6, which Robius got to get out of the hole after Jaymatron missed it. With the selection, Robius went for the big points under Planets of the Solar System for 10, but refrained from ringing in while Kalandra and Squeeky each tried it, but missed. Jaymatron got the 8 point answer in the Planets category to finish that off, then selected The Magellan Society for 8, revealing the other Daily Double. Jaymatron decided to make it worth the most it could under the circumstances, and this was the answer:

During the course of the test, you do pick this up. By the end, it's easy to see why it's being called a weapon of mass destruction.

Jaymatron got it right, for 10 points, and got on the plus side. Magellan Society for 4 was next, Jessecka got. She selected GroundHog Days for 10, which Robius rang in and got, then went back to The Magellan Society for 10. Jessecka got that one after Prometheus took too much time. Jessecka selected, and got the 8 pointer in GroundHog Days and Robius got the 6 point answer in Magellan Society to finish Double Fedpardy. The scores at the end of Double Fedpardy were:

Robius: 21
Jessecka: 17
Jaymatron: 5
Alphatron: -3
Prometheus: -16
Squeeky: -17
Kalandra: -17

Robius, Jessecka, and Jaymatron advanced to Final Fedpardy, with the category of Wall Treatments to help them decide how much they wanted to bet in Final Fedpardy. Once all the wagers were in (or deemed in), and everyone present verified ready, I gave out tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

Of the grafitti written on various walls around the solar system that existed in classic Fed, only the one that says THIS is still legible.

After 60 seconds, it was time to look at the players' responses. Jaymatron gave no response. It also made no wager, so I deemed the wager zero, so it stayed at 5 points.

Jessecka was next in line, and she responded, "what is Jim Morrison lives?" That was correct. She wagered 11 points, giving her 28 in all.

That left Robius, the leader coming in. His question was "what is Jim Morrison lives!" He got it. Then it came down to his wager, which was 14 points, giving him 35. That made him this week's Fedpardy champion, and three straight since the start of 2006.

Congratulations to Robius, tonight's winner in Fedpardy, to Jessecka in second, and Jaymatron in third. Join me on Valentine's Day, February 14, for our next exciting edition of FEDPARDY! You can also join me on the 7th in Studio 1 for the Fed Phrase Game.
