FED PHRASE GAME

Three players came to Studio 1 tonight to take part in the Fed Phrase Game. Lynnea, Robius, and Catspaws all came to the studio, and I explained how to play the game for our new players. With that done, I had the players spin to determine the order in which they would play. Catspaws went first in the order, followed by Robius, then Lynnea. Then it was time to play. I presented our first puzzle of the night, a 4 word place (4, 9, 3, and 6 letters), and Catspaws started us off.

She found a T for 600 points on her first spin, but then hit a Bankrupt and hissed at the wheel. Robius took over and placed a couple R's, an S, bought the A's, and found three M's before deciding to solve the puzzle - Rhea Municipal Art Museum. That gave Robius 3250 points.

Round 2 was a short puzzle - category Things, 2 words (5 and 5 letters). Lynnea got to start us off. She found an R for 750, 2 L's for 450 each, and then bought an E. Unfortunately for her, there weren't any. Catspaws took over, landed on 150, called S, which placed the last three consonants in the puzzle, and then solved - solar sails - for 450 points.

Round 3 was a longer puzzle. It was a 5 word thing (4, 4, 2, 14, and 5 letters), and Robius got to start it. He started off with 5 T's, and then picked up a free spin with the S's. He placed two R's, bought the O's, found an M and an F before selecting H, which was not in the puzzle. He decided to hold onto his free spin, and Lynnea took over the puzzle. Lynnea hoped she could borrow 250 for a vowel, but she had to earn the points first, and did so by finding an N for 400 points, allowing her to buy the E's. Hitting 1000 on her next spin, she found an L in the puzzle, and then bought the I's. She hit 600 and called an X, which was in the puzzle once, and then bought the A's. Then Lynnea decided to solve - some sort of existentialist party. That gave her 1250 points for the round.

Round 4 turned out to be a really big puzzle. The puzzle was a 7 word slogan (1, 3, 4, 9, 2, 9, and 8 letters), and Catspaws got to start it. She scored 4 T's, bought the A's, placed an N, bought the I's, then landed on Lose a Turn. Robius took over, with a free spin carrying over from the prior round, and promptly started racking up the points - 2000 for 2 S's; 600 for 3 H's; 4000 for 4 R's; 3000 more for 3 D's. After buying the E's for 250, he picked up 2000 more for 2 B's. Then Robius hit a Lose a Turn. That's when the free spin came in handy, and he used it to solve the puzzle - I had this delivered... by Armstrong Cuthbert - for a whopping 11,350 points!

Our fifth and final puzzle tonight was 3 word things (5, 12, and 5 letters). Lynnea got to start it, and found pairs of R's, S's, and I's before picking a missing L. Catspaws took over and added T's, N's, a G, and a D before landing on a Lose a Turn. Robius got the puzzle, but couldn't uncover any M's. Lynnea got the puzzle back and landed on 1000, but couldn't take advantage with a K. Catspaws got the puzzle back and placed a C and B, then bought the A's, O's, and U before spinning again and picking a P, then a W to leave only vowels. Catspaws then solved the puzzle - Power broadcasting units - for 2800 points.

That concluded our game, and I added up the points. Lynnea finished in third place tonight with 1250 points. Catspaws grabbed second with 3250 total points. And Robius ended up our BIG winner tonight with a total of 14,600 points! Congratulations!
