HEISENBERG'S WAREHOUSE

Colloquial: This legendary place is part of a saying popular among stevedores, as in, "Your cargo is probably in Heisenberg's Warehouse," meaning that it's been stolen.

Etymology: It is believed that the saying is derived from the name of the pre-atomic physicist, Werner Heisenberg, who first defined the quantum principle known as Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle. It states that you cannot know both the position and the speed of an object. Measuring one makes it impossible to measure the other. The saying implies that since you know the speed at which your cargo was stolen (always very rapidly!), you cannot know where it is now.

Heisenberg's Warehouse is also sometimes referred to as Schrodinger's Warehouse.
